Protective Coating Action
Pepto Bismol and Ziploc Bag Installation

"Protective Coating Action" is an interactive piece where the viewer can sit inside the chamber and be completely enveloped in Pepto Bismol.  It is claustrophobically close to you. You can see the world outside the piece, but it feels really far away. Some people enjoyed sitting in the piece, some found it disturbing.

I like using materials that have intimate, personal associations.  I think the smell helped people engage. The piece is open-ended, some people said it reminded it of their grandmother’s house, or their stomach ulcer, or they just liked the bright color.
